           SPECIAL NOTE TO TEACHERS:

While it is not necessary to add new material to
emphasize areas of the curriculum dealing with respect, it might be helpful to use
the following essay put out by the Respect Month Committee as an introduction to the topic
second as a frame of referance. Then the teacher could discuss how much ideas
relate to the lesson-- how, for instance an individual or group in
fiction or history, succeeded and achieved in the face of extreme
disrespect or, on the other hand, sought respect by robbing others of
           respect.
With younger childresen, you might want to explain these ideas in
simpler words and possibly discuss the meaning of the italisized
slogan "Stand Tall and help others to Stand Tall" and what it means
to get "more respect in the atmosphere"
EXPECT RESPECT — A MESSAGE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE.

           EXPECT RESPECT!

           STAND TALL!

We all feel anger and pain when we are
denied respect, when others put us down.
Some of us face constant disrespect. It may
be because of your race, our religion our family's income, the
clother we wear, having a handicap  because we are considered to
be too short or or too tall, too fat or too thin, because we are female
or male. It can be any reason, no matter how silly.

Sometimes when we face disrespect, this
seems more than acts of mockery or rejection by individual Human
Beings, We feel as if we were rejected by the entire World, the
Universe, by reality itself. We begin to reject ourselves, even hate
ourselves. When that happens, we have to free ourselves from such feelings and
find strength within ourselves, so we are not dominated by the attitudes of others.

Some people seek respect for themselves by showing disrespect for others.

They want to acceptance from others by hurting others...to stand tall
by tearing others down...sometimes by knocking others down. Some have
been hypnotized or brainwashed into believing this makes them strong
or it is part of manhood. Don't fall into this trap.
STAND TALL AND HELP OTHERS TO STAND TALL!

Let's try and get more respect into the
atmosphere. Show respect for your neighborhood and city. Let's come
together and make things better for all
