The Highland Park Safe & Warm
Energy Coalition is hosting two town hall
meetings to discuss how residents can get help with their winter
heating
bills and how to avoid winter fire hazards.
We want to make sure that every household is warm and safe this
winter.
There is help available if you can’t pay your heating bill, and if
you
are using space heaters, we want you to do it safely.
The first meeting will be TODAY, Tuesday, November 18, at 3 p.m. at
the
Highland Park Career Academy, 10 Glendale Street. Please enter
through
the back door off the parking lot. The second meeting will be
Tuesday,
November 25, at 6 p.m. at Highland Park Community High School, 15900
Woodward Avenue, in the auditorium. Both meetings are free and open
to
the public.
THAW (The Heat & Warmth Fund), Charter One Bank, DTE Energy, myself
and
other community groups have been working together to address heat
and
safety needs in the Highland Park community. The Coalition first met
in
October following a fire in Highland Park that killed a woman and
three
children and destroyed five houses. The house where the fire started
did
not have heat and the fire has been attributed to a space heater. |
