Lackluster is what there is. On the other hand, someone coming in and saying they're going to take a dollar a year for a wage; well, you've got to wonder how they're going to make their $$$, and to tell you the truth, that's what makes me cringe. Last time I looked, there was no free lunch. | ||

I grew up in Highland Park and I come back every year to see my family and every year I am telling my wife this used to be a lovely city until crack hit us but you know what, other cities recovered by doing something. she jokes me and calls it baghdad, wow! and she is from brooklyn I might add, my point is and this is to the people of HP, if you don't have the solution, please do not be the problem, until the people of highland park rise up and take thier city back then you will continue to struggle, I do not want the place that help shape me into the strong black man I am, ruin because of not caring. I tell myself everyday I am from HP and I survived the genocide that was unleashed against us in the 80's by god's grace, it's to bad my city has not. | ||

Damn I guess the article in the local papers was not read by a few of you,but one article even went so far to say Arthur is the son of the Father who created all this mess from the beginning,and it amazes me how people can misuse one city,and go into the next city and get elected.Myself it does not matter who is the finance mgr just as long as we can get out htis bind we're in,and if Arthur don't work he can go to it's just that simple.In closing why do citizens seem to think that citizens work for the elected or selected officials? one of the proublem is that .people in place now would pay someone a lot of money then to look for or let the bid process take hold .you can bet one dollar that the people in place have taken somthing under the table and why leave a good thing . their is good things going on in h.p. but it is about the money game and the power game.arther should clean house starting with all the six figer money people . | ||

WEll Well Here's My opinion Highland Park does not need either one of them.However I am willing to take my chances with Arthur Blackwell just as long as he can change the mess here in Highland Park,and if he can't do what he is suppose to do within two years he can be removed too.Jeff the Detroit News really told the truth,but I am not a media follower because the media lie too.In closing as I was preparing to leave Highland Park (my home) in the late 1970's the city services was going bad then.What I can't understand is why do citizens support people who have stolen or have embezzled money,and vote them into another City Administration position? This goes for Detroit as well as Highland Park. | ||

Hello my fellow Highland Parkers. I was raised in our city and believe, while only 40 years of age, I witnessed part of its glory days. Remember when there was a bustling Hamilton, let alone Woodward. Remember a time when people would come from miles around to shop at Sears, Kresge's(the dime store) and Cancellation's....remember?? I can remember my Mayor, Robert (not Bob) Blackwell's, invitation to school children to come visit him at city hall, city sponsored events for the kids and having the honor (2) of being "Mayor for a day". Good people sometimes allow bad things to happen to them. When someone perceives themself as being the "saviour" to a city and people, they can begin to feel that it is okay to "take" a little for themself. If it all started with him, then it certainly continued after. Can anyone name the mayors following Blackwell (pop quiz)? Did they add to the problem? What about the council members? It is important for the citenzry to stay informed, get involved and hold elected officials accountable. Over the weekend, like Mr. Thomas above, I returned to show my son the old neighborhood(s). Devestation, sorrow and desperation only begin to describe my emotions. I intend to find a way to get more involved, including a possible return to the city that made me! Grant me your prayers. Also, pray that those currently in positions will be used by God to restore our city. Hope is eternal. | ||

Besides Mr Robert Blackwell winning the second go round there was Jesse Miller,Martha Scott,Lindsey Porter,and our current Mayor the Honorable Titus McClary and I believe I maybe left one out Cason Sr.I remember back in the days of Robert Hall on Woodward and so was Cunningham,and behind the old Meyer's Jewelary store was the old Highland Park Detroit Streets & Railways terminal. Now we living in the days of trash mountains on the curbs,abandon houses,and no Police or Fire protection.The question that should be asked here in Highland Park is are we prepared to handle a homeland security situation? | ||

You've got to know that's never going to happen. You're seriously dreaming if you think white people are ever going to move back to Highland Park. What could possibly ever attract them back? Highland Park will most likely continue to decay. Old buildings will either burn or collapse after being abandoned with nothing much new to replace them. Eventually, large enough tracts of land will become available to farm but a century of pollutants will reveal the soil unfit for agriculture. The land will lie fallow and forests will grow. As Detroit recedes for the same reasons as HP, the forest will get larger. Eventual evacuation of humans from the North to equatorial regions due to a new ice age caused by global warming will leave the area empty as glaciers plow into it reforming the great lakes. In about 10000 years when the ice age ends and the glaciers recede, black trappers will invade to find a backward society of stone age primitive people eeking out a living from fishing, hunting and gathering. The trappers will kill them, infect them with disease and steal their land. They will import white slaves to work the land. Eventually, a black inventor will invent a machine that everyone wants after a war is fought by blacks to free the white slaves. During a big war, many free whites will be imported by the politically entrenched blacks to work in the factories. Whites will eventually drive the blacks from the city and take over politically. The city will decay again and the cycle will repeat itself. | ||
