Tuesday, September 20, 2005 What's not working The alley that run just south of Elmhurst in Highland Park has become a dumping ground for old mattresses, household items, construction debris and other rubble. Residents along the south side of Elmhurst, between Hamilton and Third, use the alley to get to parking spots behind their homes. Elizabeth Ayers understands the city's financial difficulties, but said the dumping in her alley has become a health issue. "It really got out of control this summer," said Ayers, who has cleaned up the mess before. But recently, when the rubble pile got so big it nearly closed off access to the alley, Ayers got out of her car to move a wood plank with nails protruding from it. When she threw it onto the pile, she said, several rats scurried away. "I do know that there's no funds for it, but it's more than just a cleanliness issue; it's a safety hazard now," she said. Ayers worries that neighborhood children will get bitten by rats. "It's a breeding ground. When you have that kind of filth, it can't help but migrate through the neighborhood," she said. My wife got 12 stitches in her hand as a byproduct of removing dumped trash that was blocking our alley. |

It was dumped in the trash heap, by people in power, who were only looking for the money, they could steal. And the poor S.O.B.'S left behind were given and empty sack. |

This morning I opened my garage to the alley and there was an abandoned stolen car. I'm seriously thinking of setting up a vid cam. Here are some solutions I've researched: http://www.spy-cam-security.com/catalog/product.ph p?productid=16193 or... http://www.palmvid.com/content/categories/video-ca meras/sub-categories/wired-security-cameras/produc ts/cmos-weatherproof-camera-with-microphone.html or... http://www.australsurveillance.com.au/txoutcamsol. html It's not such a huge investment. It would sure reduce dumping and other criminal activity. |

At least the streets were clean, and the garbage was picked up. |
