last Saturday was a busy day for some of us--Colorado Block Club--mostly the credit goes to Mervin Wolf for keeping it alive--did a major clean up of trash and overgrown plant life. I was involved in the clean-up efforts at the former Ford Motor Co. administration building on Woodward. The MOV Business District Association (Manchester/Oakland/Victor businesses), Weed and Seed, HPDevCo, myself and several caring members of the general public spent our second Saturday trimming trees, picking up trash, removing weeds and refreshing the historic sign in prep for the centennial of the Ford Motor Co. this week. We also went over to Sears St. and cleaned up the trash along that half block (and we need to bring the Shoppers World management up to speed on the appearance of their area).

Now that we have this website (and thank you very much for the initiative!) perhaps we can get the word out more effectively!

The next monthly project of the MOV group is to repair the roof of McGregor Library (July 12 is our target date). Call me at 313-867-8673 for more details.

Hi Katherine,
Thanks for the info about the Library. I've created an 'Events' Page and placed your information there:

McGregor Library Clean Up. Saturday, July 26. We'll start at 9:00 a.m. and gather in the parking lot of the library. Bring whatever tools you can--rakes, shovels, edgers, trash bags, gloves, gas powered weedwackers, gas powered hedge trimmers, pruning shears, bottled water and whatever else occurs to you. Woodward Manchester Corp. is providing the dumpster.

After we get the grounds under control, we want to clean up the interior--there's peeling paint and plaster and over a year's worth of dust. The goal is to get the library reopened this fall.

Call me at 313-867-8673 to coordinate our activities.

Just a random thought...Has the McGregor Fund been approached as a source for funds to help with the library's repairs/restoration? I see they have provided grants in the past to fund such endeavors.

That grant from McGregor Fund in 2000 was the first grant they had made to the library since 1926. We'll definitely be going back to them in our efforts to reopen.

When and I do mean (when) the library is reopened who will be responsible for day to day operations?
